The Banjo Player That Restored My Faith In The Internet
November 08, 2016 - Well, there are some days when you peruse the internet and you feel full discomfort, disgust, and downright dread. You...
We're loading all our new snowboard gear onto a truck and that can only mean one thing: It's time for Portland Ski Fever! Her Majesty (Mt. Hood) is looking gorgeous as ever with a nice white coating and we couldn't be more excited to kick the season off with a bang. We sat down to talk to Kylie Simmons, our resident snow shredder and booth runner, about this year's event.
2016 Ski Fever Showtimes: November 4, 5, 6
Location
Hey Kylie. What do you do at Daddies Boardshop.com?
So I have the awesome position of Managing our Customer Service team. I love talking to people about snowboarding so it’s the perfect job to talk about what I love to do all day long!
How many years have you worked at Daddies?
Exactly one year and Nine months, so I'm about to be two in Daddie's years!
How long have you snowboarded?
I have been Snowboarding since I was about 6 years old. I started out Skiing but after a my little sister started I quickly turned to snowboard. Best decision I've ever made!
Lived in Portland?
23 years. I currently live right in the heart of Portland, Oregon with My two dogs, Bleu and Rusty, but I was actually born in Decatur Illinois. We moved to Portland when I was three months old.
Favorite food?
Oh, that's a hard one. I would probably say Pizza. You can never go wrong with Pizza especially Sizzle Pie. If you buy me Pizza, I will love you forever.
Favorite lunch to pack for snowboarding?
Peanut butter and jellies sandwiches with a cold beer are in my riding backpack all year long every time.
What’s up with the Ski/Snow Expo this year?
So, this year the Expo has a few different changes. First off, for all of my friends 21+ you no longer have to stay in the Beer garden to get your drink on - they just changed their Licensing so you’re able to drink while you shop, which is new. Also, there will be some new vendors at the show this year. It’s always exciting to check out new retailers and companies. Lastly, they are doing a new 2 day ticket, so if you want to go a few times with friends and family, that option is available!
How many years have you gone to the Ski/Snowboard Expo?
Me personally, I have actually been going to the Ski Fever show since I was little like 8 years old. My first time was with my parents and after that I was hooked. Then when I turned 18, I actually started to work at the Expo for a few different company's tent. It’s awesome to see year to year the changes and different people that come through,so when I got the opportunity to work at Daddies’ and have the opportunity to bring us to the Expo, you can say I was like a little girl in a Candy shop. I love being able to do what I love and love what I do, which is pretty much anything that has to do with snowboarding.
How long has Daddies been at the expo?
Last year was actually our first year at the show and it was AMAZING. We are so grateful to not only be a vendor, but to be part of such an awesome community of riders and retails, so we are definitely bringing a couple surprises to stoak people out this year like they did us last year!
What's new for Daddies at the expo this year?
Well this year we are pumped because we have more than 3x times the amount of space than we had last year, so that means we are able to bring more of this year’s gear and of course we will have rad deals on all of our last year’s products! Plus we will be raffling off a surprise Limited Edition item - if you LOVE Portland you’re going to need this!
What advice do you have for a first time expo’er?
For all of My Virgin Expo friends, I would highly recommend stopping by our tent first of all. But for the whole show, I would definitely spend some time walking around and checking out all the vendors and talk to some retailers and reps: you will learn so much about different products and others people’s perspectives. Knowledge is Power, the more you know!
Any New Brands to the Daddies tent?
Yes!! we’re excited to announce that we’re officially carrying 686 and one of my favorite brands called Saga. Their stuff is so sick. It’s definitely on the list of my top favorites, but we of course will have the limited Never Summer snowboards and other classics like 32, Captia, Burton, Rome and all those Great companies.
Why Should someone go? What’s the Pitch?
Well first of all, it’s amazing to be around people who love doing what you do and it is also a huge learning experience to be able to talk about snowboarding for hours out of a day and just get hyped for the season. But it is also a way to get gear at amazing prices. We all know snowboarding can get pretty spendy, but the Expo is great for getting new or old gear for such a good price. Also, if you have a family, it’s a great bonding experience. And don’t forget about the homies. It’s cool to go and walk around and drink and see who can get the best deals on the coolest stuff.Game on!
Where is it?
It is at the Portland Expo Center in Jantzen Beach.
When?
The Show is on November 4,5 and 6th. Make sure to get there early because parking can be a hassle.
Anything Else?
That about sums it up! I would definitely come by and say hi to me and the gang. We will be there all weekend slinging gear and hanging out with the community, so come join us!
